When the Texas state Legislature passed a law effectively banning abortion in Texas – without actually banning abortion in Texas, it was a certainty that the reaction would be heard across the country, especially when the Supreme Court refused to take action.
When a March for Women’s Rights was announced, with satellite marches all across the country, there was little doubt that there was going to be one in Corvallis. The main question was, would it begin on the lawn of the Benton County Courthouse, or end there? Public events always either begin at the Courthouse, end at the Courthouse, or both.
Soon enough, a page for the event was created on Facebook, and a gathering point was established in Corvallis’ Central Park, at the gazebo – 650 SW Monroe Avenue, at the park’s southwest corner. If you want to march, be there by 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 2.
People planning to attend are urged to know how to exercise “the right of the people peaceably to assemble,” and to abide by the organizers’ requested guidelines for wise non-violent and non-provocative conduct. An exact route for the march has not yet been published, but it is almost certain to terminate at the Courthouse.
