Four “I Lived to Tell the World” Events Slated

There’s four upcoming events surrounding Elizabeth Mehren’s I Lived to Tell the World: Stories from Survivors of Holocaust, Genocide, and the Atrocities of War.  Two at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library and two at PRAx – those details are below.

About the book, it presents thirteen inspiring profiles of men and women who have fled from Rwanda, Myanmar, Bosnia, Syria, and more to make new homes in Oregon. Drawn from hours of interviews and oral histories, these personal stories of resilience also weave in historical, cultural and political context.

Copies of the book will be available to check out from the library’s 2nd floor reference desk, while supplies last.

Event times

The library’s events are set for the next two Saturdays, January 18 and 25. They’ll run from 2 to 3 pm at the Main Meeting Room, 645 NW Monroe Ave. These two moderated book conversations are presented by the OSU Center for the Humanities. For more information, contact the library at 541-766-6793. A sign language interpreter can be provided with seven days’ notice. Call 541-766-6928 to request an accommodation.

The PRAx events are being held in conjunction with the library events, and you’ll want to visit the PRAx website for tickets.

I Lived to Tell the World Exhibit Opening and Panel, January 27, 4 pm, PRAx, free and open to all. Photographs, scholarship, and personal experience combine to ask, “What happens when we shift from a single version of history told in a textbook to a mosaic of individual experiences?”

I Lived to Tell the World Live Performance, February 1, at 7pm.
