Finance and Administrative Committee will consider authorizing the design and development of modernizations to the Sinnhuber Aquatic Research Laboratory, a 17,000-square-foot zebrafish aquatic toxicology facility, and improvements to Dixon Recreation Center. Jackson Meadow Restoration Volunteer Opportunity. Jackson Meadow in the McDonald-Dunn Research Forest (coordinates provided upon RSVP). 9 am. Volunteers will help dig and pull Italian arum, spurge laurel, and Scotch broom using shovels, soil knives, and weed wrenches. Your efforts will help prepare the site for native seeding and planting, directly contributing to the success of this restoration project. All volunteers must complete IAE’s volunteer release form. Abstract Illusionism: Rip Cronk & George D. Green. Philomath Museum. 1101 Main Street, Philomath. 10 am – 4:30 pm. Exhibit runs until March 9, 2025. While they work in different styles, both Rip Cronk and George D. Green use techniques of illusion in their artwork to force viewers to consider the world a little differently. George Green was a fifth-generation Oregonian and a founding member of the Abstract Illusionists. His work has been shown in the U.S. and Europe and is represented in 60 museums. After a 30-year tenure in NYC, George returned to Oregon where he passed away in 2020. Rip Cronk, known as the muralist of Venice Beach, has been in Benton County for over ten years and is a very active member of the arts community here. Clink! A Taste of Oregon Wine. Philomath Museum. 1101 Main Street, Philomath.
10 am – 4:30 pm. Exhibit runs until May 4. This exhibit, on loan from the Oregon Historical Society, explores the story of Oregon wine and some of the moments that make up its history. The narrative spans over 150 years, from the pioneers who brought grapevines on the Oregon Trail to the winegrowers who blazed a new trail in the 1960s to the innovations continuing to take place across the state. Memory Quilts Exhibit. Corvallis Museum, 411 SW 2nd Street, Corvallis. 10 am – 4:30 pm until March 16, 2025. Stitched in Memory… Often called friendship quilts, signature quilts, or memory quilts, in the United States the tradition of quilts to memorialize friends, relatives, and communities began in the 1840s. Early examples featured individual blocks contributed by those within a social network, with signatures in indelible ink. As trends and methods changed blocks started to feature embroidery, applique, and fabric paint, and the quilts often included references to activities, hobbies, and personalities as well as names. Put a Bird on It! Finley, Feathers, & Fashion. Corvallis Museum, 411 SW Second Street, Corvallis. 10 am – 4:30 pm Wednesday through Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 4:30 pm through October 12. Utilizing many of the taxidermy birds from the Horner Collection, this exhibit will look at the connections between fashion, feathers, and the conservation work of William L. Finley. Oak Savannas and Kalapuya Garden Plots in and Around Corvallis. Corvallis Museum, 411 SW Second Street, Corvallis. 10:30 am. Tickets: $5. In the woodlots around Corvallis, there are Garry Oak trees predating the European colonizers, as well as many food plants that occur under the canopy of the oaks. Dr. Albert will discuss his recent research into remnant oak savannas, their significance to the traditional Kalapuya diet, and how to identify these historic trees. Stitched in Memory… Often called friendship quilts, signature quilts, or memory quilts, in the United States the tradition of quilts to memorialize friends, relatives, and communities began in the 1840s.
