The exhibit, inspired by journalist Elizabeth Mehren’s book of the same name, celebrates the stories of people who have survived perilous journeys and unthinkable cruelty in their home countries only to build productive new lives in Oregon. These survivors are united by a troubling truth: human despotism, barbarism, and cruelty sometimes know no bounds. And yet, as this exhibition aims to make clear, humanity is also made up of the courageous and the resilient. The Immigrant Story presents this exhibit in the hope that the images and their corresponding stories will inspire, inform, and possibly, enlighten. Visit I Lived to Tell the World – Multimedia Exhibition | PRAx | Oregon State University for more info.

The exhibition’s title comes from Fred Korematsu, who famously challenged the mass imprisonment of over 125,000 Japanese Americans during WWII. When faced with criminal charges for not following the military orders to leave his home without due process, the U.S. born citizen remembered his Constitutional rights and asked, “Am I an American or am I not?” Visit Am I an American or Am I Not? – Benton County Museums for more info.

Memory Quilts Exhibit. Corvallis Museum, 411 SW 2nd Street, Corvallis. 10 am – 4:30 pm until March 16, 2025. Stitched in Memory… Often called friendship quilts, signature quilts, or memory quilts, in the United States the tradition of quilts to memorialize friends, relatives, and communities began in the 1840s. Early examples featured individual blocks contributed by those within a social network, with signatures in indelible ink. As trends and methods changed blocks started to feature embroidery, applique, and fabric paint, and the quilts often included references to activities, hobbies, and personalities as well as names.
