Thousands of used books for sale, all in one place, and the proceeds benefitting the library – yes, please, count us in.
Running from Friday through Sunday, hundreds of book lovers and readers of all ages are expected to flock to the annual Big Book Sale at the Benton County Events Center and Fairgrounds.
It’s an opportunity to pore over some 35,000 gently used books and browse thousands of fiction and nonfiction books for all ages. And, add to that, audio books, CDs, and DVDs too.
It’s all sponsored by the Friends and Foundation of the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library. Well over 100 volunteers donate countless hours to this big annual event, says Katherine Inman, who chairs the sale for the Friends and Foundation.
“The sale will include a special selection of Oregon authors and a STEM section where young readers will find hundreds of books about science, technology, engineering and math,” Inman says. “These categories are in addition to the popular table of books chosen as favorites by our volunteers.”
“Every dollar we raise through book sales supports the programs people enjoy at the Corvallis library and the branches in Philomath, Alsea and Monroe,” Inman says. “Story times, summer reading programs, book clubs, tax assistance, gardening programs, Random Review, Lego play times — all these activities and more are funded by the Friends and Foundation through our book sales, and this is the big one!”
Prices, hours, directions
Prices start low at $3-4 for adult books and $1-2 for children’s books, and they get lower each day, Inman notes.
The sale is open to the public Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friends and Foundation donors get in early Friday, from 1 to 4 p.m. Anyone can become a donor for as little as $10 at the door, and those with current Friends of the Library memberships will be admitted. Or donate anytime online at https://www.cbcplfriendsandfoundation.org/give-now.
Volunteers are always needed to help at the book sale. If you are interested, contact volunteer@cbcplfriendsandfoundation.org.
When you go: The sale is in the Solar Building at the Benton County Event Center and Fairgrounds. Please enter the fairgrounds from Reservoir Road, and enter the sale at the west end of the Solar Building — there will be plenty of signage to direct you.
