We at The Advocate have teamed with City Club of Corvallis to host debates for each of the six City Council races that are contested in this year’s election. Below, you will find the videos for the Ward 1 and Ward 6 debates, which we hosted earlier this week.
Last week, we posted debates for Ward 3 and Ward 7, which you can find here. Next week, we’ll be hosting debates for wards 2 and 9. You can also find the videos on our YouTube channel.
We plan to publish our endorsements on Friday, Oct. 25.
This year’s Corvallis City Council election is unusually active – there are 17 candidates running for nine seats, and six of those seats are contested among 14 candidates. The crowded field issues from a number of factors – four incumbents have declined to seek reelection, there’s a slate of five candidates running on what they’re calling the Grassroots Slate, and another two candidates have also joined the fray.
Adding to all of that, most, but not all of the remaining incumbents are being challenged this year, which is unusual in our fair burg.
Here’s the Ward 1 and Ward 6 debate videos…
