The Big Picture: American Quilts from the Volckening Collection. Philomath Museum, 1101 Main Street, Philomath. 10 am – 4:30 pm. Free. The quilts were presented as large-scale works of art — big pictures — and that’s when people really began to recognize the greatness of quiltmaking in America. Long Summer Days is a photo essay that follows Haley’s journey through childhood as she struggles with the boredom of living as a single child in the same small home where Streitberger grew up. She lives a nearly device free lifestyle, which leads her to explore the world and envelop herself in her imagination and creativity. These images include subtle undertones and rich metaphors that disrupt stereotypes of girls, while highlighting Haley’s delightfully unconsciousness strength, independence, defiance, and playfulness.
