Cadena to Seek Reelection as Ward 9 City Councilor

Ward 9 City Councilor Tony Cadena has thrown in his hat the ring for a second term.

The announcement that he would seek reelection came Wednesday afternoon. Cadena is nearing the completion of his first term on the City Council, during which he has served as Vice-Chair of the Budget Commission and Chair of the Urban Renewal Agency.

As a City Councilor, Cadena says he has concentrated on enhancing the Council’s stewardship of the city’s financial, physical, and human resources. He advocates for long-term strategic planning to ensure Corvallis’ future is sustainable, robust, and livable. “I want to advance community engagement and understanding to plan how we attain our desired future,” Cadena said.

Cadena’s professional background includes roles as a Contributing Associate Professor at Willamette University’s Atkinson Graduate School of Management, Chief Financial Officer for Corvallis’ ViewPlus Technologies, Inc., and a 25-year career with Hewlett-Packard in senior management positions in Finance and Operations.

In addition to his professional achievements, Cadena has been actively involved in numerous nonprofit organizations, taking on leadership roles that focus on strategic planning, mission redefinition, impact measurement, and developing long-term financial sustainability plans.

Cadena said that following his retirement from teaching at the end of 2021, he decided to dedicate more time to serving the city he has called home for nearly three decades.

He says that a commitment to representing all residents of Ward 9 and the broader Corvallis community is a driving force behind his reelection bid. “I hope to give voice to the concerns of all in our community,” Cadena said.

Cadena says one of his key goals is to help Corvallis better narrate its history and envision its future. “I enjoy listening to constituents express what they are happy about and what they are deeply concerned about. I learn about their underlying interests and issues and share what I’ve learned as a Councilor to foster conversation about how our common future can unfold,” he said.

Cadena also said he envisions Corvallis as a community that thrives through responsible management of core investments in infrastructure and services, strategic economic development to expand the tax base, and housing development that meets the needs of a growing and evolving population.

“I see Corvallis as a livable community for all, by managing its core investments in infrastructure and services, responsibly planned economic development to broaden our tax base, and fostering housing development which serves an evolving and growing population,” said Cadena.
