Bernie Wang will Replace Sarah Finger McDonald on Corvallis’ School Board

The Corvallis School District has announced the selection of Bernie Wang as an interim member of the Corvallis School Board. He will complete Sarah Finger McDonald’s term – she is leaving to serve as Corvallis’ representative in the Oregon House.

“Mr. Wang was chosen from a group of highly qualified candidates following a thorough application and interview process,” said a release from the district.

The School Board received applications from seven candidates. The Board narrowed the pool to four semi-finalists, each participating in an interview to share their perspectives on key issues and their vision for the district.

According to the district, the interview process featured questions designed to highlight each candidate’s understanding of the role, ability to collaborate, and insights into district priorities. After advancing three finalists, the Board ultimately selected Wang. They said Wang was picked because he has expertise and a thoughtful approach to issues facing the district.

Wang currently serves as an assistant in the School of Communications at Oregon State University. He is also a retired U.S. Navy Captain.

“We are excited to welcome Bernie to the School Board,” said Luhui Whitebear, Chair of the Corvallis School Board. “His dedication to education and service that he has been engaged with over the years will add to the board as we work together to support our students, staff, and families.”

Wang was sworn in and officially assumed his duties as an interim School Board member at the November 5, 2024 school board meeting, where he will serve until June 30, 2025.
