Housing Development Permits See Increase: The Corvallis City Council will review its Land Development Information Report for 2022 at a work session on May 18.
According to the report, the demand for both single-detached and multi-dwelling development remains strong with permits issued for over 100 units of each in 2022.
“This level of activity is like 2021, and something Corvallis has not seen since before the recession,” said Paul Bilotta, Community Development Director.
The report councilors will review shows available vacant and partially vacant lands, and land use and development activities that occurred during 2022. The hope is to expand housing development to meet growing needs.
“The land availability analysis provided in the most recent report includes data from the adopted 2016 Buildable Lands Inventory, and an assessment of impacts to the supply of that land since 2016, based on development activity and land use decisions,” said Bilotta.
Several tentative land divisions were approved in 2022, but, unusually, no final land divisions were recorded, according to supporting documents. Conversely, lag times are intrinsic when it comes to development, and notably, the real estate market is only now bouncing back after some uncertainty last year when interest rates started increasing.

Gun Violence Proclamation: At the Corvallis City Council meeting on May 15, members of the council and the mayor proclaimed the city’s alignment with June 2 as National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
The proclamation states that Oregon has 587-gun deaths every year, with a rate of 13 deaths per 100,000 people, a crisis that costs the state $8.1 billion each year, of which $89.1 million is paid by taxpayers. Oregon has the 34th highest rate of gun deaths in the US.
In January 2013, Hadiya Pendleton was tragically shot and killed at age 15; and on June 2, 2023, to recognize the 26th birthday of Hadiya Pendleton (born: June 2, 1997), people across the US will recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Day and wear orange in tribute to Pendleton and other victims of gun violence as well as the loved ones of those victims.
The City of Corvallis is asking residents to commemorate this day by wearing orange to help raise awareness about gun violence.
