A portion of the Gallery’s sales is donated to schools and programs in the community. Forum on Public Banking – League of Women Voters of Corvallis. Virtual Event. 6:30 p.m. Free. The League of Women Voters invites you to learn about public banking in an interactive Zoom forum on Monday, November 13, at 6:30 pm. Rick Staggenborg, a member of both the League and Oregon Public Banking Alliance, will lead the discussion. Public banking is an issue that Oregonians will be hearing a lot more about in the near future. In its last session, the Oregon legislature passed a bill to establish a task force on how best to implement, operate, and govern an Oregon state bank. Although the governor vetoed the bill, she affirmed her support for the concept. Supporters are expected to introduce a revised bill in the next session. That is the basis for The Nature of Gratitude, an ongoing series of community gatherings exploring diverse aspects of gratitude through live music, spoken word, photography and art. 2023 Marston Lecture: The Dive of a Lifetime to the Deepest Place on Earth. The LaSells Stewart Center, Oregon State University, 875 Southwest 26th Street, Corvallis. 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Free. During this lecture, Dr. Dawn Wright (aka Deepsea Dawn) will talk about this dive, imaging technologies and implications of discoveries. In the summer of 2022, Dr. Dawn Wright (aka Deepsea Dawn) became the first Black person of any gender to dive to the deepest spot on the entire planet – Challenger Deep – in the western Pacific Ocean, in collaboration with Victor Vescovo and his Caladan Oceanic team. During this lecture, Dawn will talk about this dive—including the geospatial and imaging technologies used on the dive, discoveries from mapping this part of the world in history-making detail, and implications of discoveries for future ocean science.
