Join the Willamette Valley Symphony for an all Spanish/Latin-inspired music performance featuring works from Oregon composer Freddy Vilches (originally from Santiago, Chile), who will also perform on traditional instruments. His piece, Latin American Suite (or Suite Latinoamericana) consists of 5 pieces from the Andes, Colombia and Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico, and Cuba. Sheriff’s Posse’s Annual Children with Special Needs Ride. Benton County Fairgrounds. 110 SW 53rd St., Corvallis. 8 a.m. Free. The Benton County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse annually hosts a horseback riding event for children with special needs and their siblings. The event takes place at the Benton County Fairgrounds where children are helped onto a horse and led around the arena. Riders must be between the ages of 3 and 18. They must be able to hang on by themselves, although volunteers help the children on and off the horses and spot them as they walk around the arena. Photographs are taken in front of a green screen and printed on site so each child goes home with a photo of their experience and the memory of a special day. Originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania and currently based in New York, Samantha’s brilliantly-crafted jokes and loveable stage persona may remind you of a Millennial version of the great Paula Poundstone. In addition to performing stand-up on both The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she has also worked on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, appeared as a panelist on NPR’s Ask Me Another, and is a regular announcer for the annual NYC Pride March. Samantha Ruddy is one of the best young comedians and joke writers in the country. This show will contain adult language. No one under 18 will be admitted without a parent or guardian. Trailblazers. Whiteside Theatre, 361 SW Madison Ave., Corvallis. 6:30 p.m. $5-$20. On June 11, 2023 Corvallis Climbers of Color is hosting a community screening of Trailblazers, a documentary film created by emerging Black film director Skyler Humphrey-Davis, at the Whiteside Theatre. Admission is a recommended donation of $5 to $20. All proceeds go to CCOC. Trailblazers, a film documentary by Skyler Humphrey-Davis, shows Pacific Northwest based BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) community leaders creating cultural inclusive spaces through programmatic, organizational, and personal endeavors that allow BIPOC community members to experience, with confidence and a sense of security, outdoor wilderness spaces and exploration activities. This film will highlight curators of outdoor experiences tailored specifically to the BIPOC communities in order to facilitate the reclaiming of their right to outdoor wilderness spaces and adventure activities.
