Our dedicated small staff has initiated a number of new news beats these last few months, and we are now seeking community oriented people that would like to consider joining our team. Some of our positions require newspaper and magazine experience, and others only require a keen interest in the beat being covered.
CITY EDITOR/REPORTER: Requires experience covering local government, crime and courts, and the business community. The ideal candidate has experience with both day-to-day coverage, and long-form deep dives. Bonus points for experience making assignments, and helping other reporters develop their stories.
INTERN REPORTER/JOURNALIST: Some experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate. Strong writing skills and a resourcefulness in seeking information is required. We believe interns learn by doing, and we’re willing to pay you to do so.
SPECIALIST WRITER/REPORTER: For these positions, if needed, we teach you how to do the journalism, but you should have a keen interest in the beat you’ll be covering – parenting, business, or arts and entertainment. Alternatively, maybe you would like pitch a new beat.
HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS: These two positions require excellent writing skills and a drive to learn new skills. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who works well independently, someone that can meet the pressure of deadlines and can learn from constructive feedback and coaching. We believe interns learn by doing, and these are paid positions.
