The Benton County TrashTalk advisory group has begun its work, and continuing on to the next step in the process of deciding what to do about the possible expansion of the Coffin Butte Landfill. The item on their agenda will be a tour of Coffin Butte, and you can come along if you register in time.

The tour will take place Saturday, September 24. The bus to the tour will leave from the Republic Services office, located at 110 NE Walnut Blvd., Corvallis, promptly at 10:00 a.m. The bus will return tour members at approximately noon.

To be on that bus, email your request to be included to pioinfo@co.benton.or.us by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22. Please note, that is today.

The tour will be led by Republic, however questions will be taken.

Neighborhood Tour

On Saturday, October 1, a second tour – a “Neighborhood Tour” – will be held at the request of Coffin Butte neighbor Joel Geier. The same contact details – an email to pioinfo@co.benton.or.us – will apply for this tour. Send your RSVP for this tour by Thursday, September 29, by 5:00 p.m.

This second tour will meet in Adair Village. The specifics are still to be announced.

Background

The push to talk trash began after the request to expand Coffin Butte was made and caused serious concerns for residents in the area. After a consulting firm came to hear out what was happening, then the suggestion was offered and decision made to create the TrashTalk Advisory Board.

The advisory board members include:

  1. Brandon Bates
  2. John Deuel
  3. Kathryn Duvall
  4. Ryan McCallister
  5. Christopher McMorran
  6. Mary Parmigiani
  7. Ed Pitera
  8. Louisa Shelby

The members will be meeting through mid-December. For those interested in attending a meeting, you can find a schedule of meetings at the Benton County Solid Waste Process Work Group website.
