All-Ages Show to Benefit Jackson Street Youth Services

On Saturday, March 12, the Corvallis Community Center will host an all-ages punk show to benefit Jackson Street Youth Services. The featured bands are Flexing – political post-punk from Corvallis, Kylo Ren – screamo from Eugene, and St. Juliana – ambient noise from Corvallis.

In September 2001, the Oregon Department of Human Services licensed the creation of a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week youth shelter, the Benton County Youth Shelter, which was quickly renamed the Jackson Street Youth Shelter in reference to its physical location. Over the years, the Jackson Street non-profit purchased the youth shelter building, increased the bed capacity from nine to 12, received its first federal grant, opened a drop-in center in Albany, and opened the first of many “Next Steps” shelters with beds available for adults aged 18 to 20 who would otherwise be homeless after aging out of the youth system.

14 years after opening its first shelter, Jackson Street opened another 24/7 shelter in Albany. A year after that, the organization hired its first mental health therapist and began using the name Jackson Street Youth Services to emphasize the range of resources it offers beyond the shelters themselves.

Masks and proof of vaccination are required to attend. Drugs and alcohol are prohibited. Tickets are available for a donation of $7 – 10.

The event begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Willow Room of the Corvallis Community Center, located at 2601 NW Tyler Ave.
