After over a decade of service to the Corvallis community, Mayor Biff Traber will be stepping down at the end of his current term of office. Traber began his time in city government as a board member among other volunteer positions, and was elected to the city council in 2011. He has won the election for mayor twice, with his current term to end in 2023.
“I will remain fully engaged in my role as Mayor throughout 2022, and I will work to
facilitate a smooth transition to the Mayor-Elect after the November election,” he said in a press release issued earlier today.
This leaves the question of who will step into the role of Mayor. It also means that the election come November of 2022 will be more than just another midterm. Within hours of Traber’s announcement, City Councilor Charles Maughan announced he will run for the City’s top slot next year.
Traber said of his decision to not seek reelection, “It is time for me to move on and enable new leadership.”
