According to an over decade-long tradition, this April Linn Benton Community College (LBCC) has organized its annual 2021 Juried Student Art Show. And like most things in the past year the show is only accessible virtually.
Fifty-eight submissions spanning techniques — painting in different media, drawing, ceramics, digital art, photography, mixed media, and animations — are featured this year. You can see them all at the Art Show website.
Sin Melendez, a local artist, a graduate of LBCC, and a former gallery coordinator has selected the shown pieces and the winner of the Juror’s Choice Award.
Anne Magratten, the faculty member who oversees the LBCC Art Gallery, spoke to The Advocate about the logistics of this show: ”Art faculty and donors will select other award recipients. The community is welcome to vote for their favorite artwork using the google form embedded in the slideshow,” she said. “The winner will receive the People’s Choice Award of $100. Two wonderful community organizations who donate each year are the Willamette Valley PhotoArts Guild and the Willamette Ceramics Guild. They both select winners for media specific awards.”
The show awarded over $2000 worth of prizes thanks to “generous donations from the Willamette Ceramics Guild, Willamette Valley PhotoArts Guild, Blick Art Materials, LBCC President Lisa Avery, LBCC VP Ann Buchele, ASSH Dean Meg Roland, Dean of Instruction Katie Winder, Regional Director Jeff Davis, the LBCC Campus Store, and esteemed Visual Art & Communications Instructors Isabelle Havet, Lewis Franklin, Anne Magratten, and Renee McKitterick,“ states the online show description.
Art enthusiasts are welcome to cast their votes for their favorite piece of art. One vote per person is allowed. Award ceremony and Annual Celebration can be viewed via Zoom on May 12, 5-6 p.m.
