“Hazard Trees” Replaced in Albany Natural Area

A group of Douglas firs on the corner of Crocker Lane and Valley View Dr. in North Albany have been dying or sick for some time now. The trees were removed by Benton County last month, and according to Hasso Hering, a local blogger, the county aims to replace them with a valley pine conifer that’s more suited to the changing climate of the Willamette Valley.

The roughly 10-acre area was originally destined for homes and streets until Myles Breadner agreed to donate the area to Benton County. Breadner was the developer of the nearby subdivision and donated them as a street improvement along Crocker Lane.

The county expects to need to replant and remove trees every few years to improve the health of the area.

Those curious about what the renewed trail looks like can visit Hering’s blog, linked above for a video of the new trail.
