On Monday, Nov. 22, the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde will celebrate its 38th year since Restoration. This annual celebration commemorates the signing of the Grand Ronde Restoration Act in 1983, which restored federal recognition of the Tribes as a sovereign nation.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Restoration Day celebration will be held virtually with a Facebook raffle and Zoom meeting.
The raffle will start at 10 a.m. with different prizes for different age groups. All enrolled Grand Ronde Tribal members are automatically entered into the raffle. Prizes will be mailed out to the winners.
The Zoom meeting will start at 12 p.m. According to the agenda, a history of the Tribes will be presented by David Harrelson, manager of the Cultural Resources Department, followed by a Restoration overview and a subsequent “Our Tribe Today” talk given by the Tribal Council. Breakout sessions are scheduled to start at 1:20 p.m. and will touch on topics of food sovereignty, storytelling, Columbia River art, the Plankhouse, and Tribal museum collections.
If you’re an enrolled member of the Tribes, you can fill out this online form to receive their 38th Annual Restoration Day gift bags. Forms must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Dec. 3.
You can learn more about the history of the Tribes’ termination and restoration on their website.
