COVID-19 has taken its toll on everyone. You’ve known someone who was sick, someone who worked tirelessly with the sick, or someone who died from this once-in-a-lifetime event that has killed over 600,000 people in the U.S. alone. And the cases continue to come, although that happens more so in some cities than others.
Corvallis is one of the better cities to live in when it comes to COVID. In Benton County as a whole, vaccination rates are very good with 88% of all people 65 and older, 69% of those 18 and older, and 61% of those 12 and older having got the shots.
The lowest case rates in the country can be mapped out around metro areas. Of the 50 lowest case rate metro areas, one is in the Midwest, 10 are in the Northeast, 11 are in the South, and 28 are in the West.
Of these metro areas with better COVID rates, the top five with the smallest per capita rates are Urban Honolulu and Kahului-Wailuku-Lahaina in Hawaii, the Bremerton-Silverdale-Port Orchard area of Washington, the Eugene-Springfield area of Oregon, and our very own Corvallis, Oregon.
According to 24/7 Wall St., “The incidence of COVID-19 in these metro areas range from 2,806.7 cases per 100,000 to 3,722.1 cases per 100,000. For comparison, there are currently 10,286.9 cases per 100,000 Americans nationwide.” Their rankings are based on state and local health department statistics combined with Census details.
