School Cancellation Extended Through April 28 & Learning Resources for Families

March 23, 2020, 5 pm

Our core values of community and relationship are at the forefront of the work that is happening in our district as we navigate the COVID-19 public health crisis. We can all work together to get through this challenging time by sharing accurate information, leaning in with empathy for the worries and concerns of each other and the broader community, and by finding creative ways to think about how we connect and support one another. Thank you for the positive and encouraging messages that we are seeing on social media and in your personal networks.

Buildings and Outdoor Facilities Closed
In response to the Governor’s Executive Order 20-12, all Corvallis School District Buildings will be closed to staff and the public effective 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 24.This encompasses all school facilities including playgrounds and athletic facilities.

  • A limited number staff will be accessing the buildings to perform essential operational functions.
  • The district’s main reception line, 541-757-5811 will be staffed during our regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm to accept calls from the general public.
  • District bond construction projects will continue. (more details below)

Free Meal Sites Continue Operations
Grab and go meals continue to be available from 12-1 pm at four school sites. Locations are Garfield, Lincoln, and Wilson Elementary Schools and Clemens Primary School in Philomath. Children must be present to pick up a meal and if you are driving, you are asked to stay in your car for “drive-through” pick up. In the event that this is not possible, please notify the food service employee for assistance. The construction at Lincoln is NOT disrupting the free meal site location. Please pick up your meal near the play shed on the south side of the school.

Construction Projects Continue
Construction and manufacturing were specifically exempted under the Governor’s order so long as they “ensure that their employees are maintaining social distancing measures.”  The district’s bond project managers have ensured that our contractors are in compliance with this requirement and projects will continue as planned at Garfield Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Cheldelin Middle School, Corvallis High School, Crescent Valley High School and Muddy Creek Charter School.

Donations Accepted
Donations of food and personal hygiene products will be accepted this week on Wednesday ONLY from 9 am – 12 pm. To prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we are now requesting that donations be dropped off at the Western View Center following social distancing practices. A table will be set up outside for drop-off.  You may also make a donation of funds online through the Corvallis Public Schools Foundation. Donations will be used to purchase essential items for students and families. Families who need additional information or support, please call the district office Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at 541-757-5811.

We will continue to provide updates to you as information is available. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Superintendent’s Message for Families

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we navigate the COVID-19 public health crisis that is rapidly evolving. Yesterday, Governor Kate Brown took another step to “flatten the curve” of new infections by banning gatherings of more than 25 people for at least a month and restricting restaurants and other establishments to serving takeout and delivery food only.

Late this afternoon, Governor Brown announced an extension of school cancellation through April 28, 2020.

Schools to Distribute Student iPads and Chromebooks on March 19 and 20

We are taking a proactive approach for students to have access to supplemental educational materials including a learning device. Students who do not have a device to access a computer at home are encouraged to go to their school to pick up their iPads or a Chromebook for supplemental learning during this school cancellation.

All iPads and Chromebooks will be in a convenient, central location for pick up. Families will be provided with information about logging in and how student devices are filtered for student privacy and safety. Families with middle school students have already been instructed to pick up student devices. Families with elementary and high school students will receive a message from their school about pick up details.

We will continue to share updated information as available

If you are looking for information about how we are supporting students or ways you can help our community, please check the Support for Students page and social media. If your student needs assistance accessing free lunch or picking up a student device at their school, please call the district office at 541-757-5811.
