Correction: The ties are 4 for $1 not $1 each this article has been updated to state that fact
Starting tomorrow, the OSU Folk Club Thrift Shop is holding a contest to upcycle an abundance of men’s ties, which they have dubbed “Tie-A-Palooza”
The event was prompted by a series of anonymous donations that began last fall. According to Carol Ann Langstine of the store’s donations committee, thousands of ties were left at their back door by person or persons unknown. No note or instructions were given. The donations lasted for several weeks, and Langstine reports that all of the ties are in excellent condition.
To enter the contest, all one must do is purchase 4 ties for $1, and put at tie to creative use. Examples given include skirts, hats, sculptures, wall hangings and stuffed animals. The deadline for entries is March 14, after which they will be exhibited in the shop from March 31 – April 14. The winners will be decided by public vote and announced April 15. A $50 gift card will be awarded to the entry with the most votes, and second and third place will receive $35 and $15 gift cards, respectively.
Proceeds from the contest will go to funding community grants and scholarships.
