Art About Agriculture Competition and Touring Exhibition 2020
The 37th Annual Art About Agriculture Competition and Touring Exhibition wants your visions of Oregon’s agricultural future. The Art About Agriculture Competition and Touring Exhibition 2020: Tension/Harmony is sponsored by Oregon State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences. The College invites artists to explore the relationship between the conservation of natural resources and agricultural production. What will tomorrow’s food and fiber look like when we place equal weight on conservation and production concerns? How might farming, fishing, logging, fibers, fashion, and food culture change in the Pacific Northwest? How might communities and connectedness change as we better understand food insecurity and market access? What would cutting-edge research, technology, and innovation look like in the march towards finding a balanced future?

A small sampling of recent agricultural advancements from the College of Agricultural Sciences:
This regional, juried competition is open to artists living in Alaska, British Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. Student artwork completed while enrolled in an educational curriculum is not accepted.
All submissions must relate thematically to agriculture and natural resources. All media in the visual fine arts and crafts are eligible for consideration. All approaches welcome: abstract, conceptual, expressionistic, fantasy, interactive, representational, and technology-based, among others.
The jurying process occurs in two parts: Part one is the review of art submissions, selecting artworks from those digital submissions for the inaugural exhibition at Giustina Gallery, and further selection of artworks for inclusion in the tour. In part two, jurors will make final selections for Art About Agriculture Permanent Collection Acquisition Awards, as well as honorarium awards to recognize exceptional artists.
Beyond those artists selected by the jurors, the Directing Curator of Art About Agriculture may invite one or more additional artists to participate in the Tour 2020.
Art About Agriculture reserves the right to refuse artwork that does not meet the competition standards, or artwork that is beyond the scope or specification of the competition
- Submissions: May submit up to five artworks. Images should be titled accordingly: First_Last-shortened title-0x0x0in. 3D artworks may submit up to three additional images of different views for each artwork. Please group 3D views in the image title with A, B, C indicators.
- Fee: No fee for submission is required. However, participating galleries may charge a sales commission, rarely exceeding 40%, on work sold while on display during this exhibition and tour. For reference, Giustina Gallery collects a 30% sales commission.
Work on paper must be framed and under acrylic/Plexiglas – no glass! 2D artwork must be framed, wired, and ready to hang. Other wall-hung artwork should be wired if possible.
Dimensions, weight, and Support:
All artworks must be less than 50 lbs.
- 2D including frame: no larger than 48 inches in height and 56 inches in width, or 56 inches in height and 48 inches in width.
- 3D: must not exceed 40 inches in height or width, 36 inches in depth, and must fit through a standard doorway.
- Technology-based art: Please provide technology and maintenance needs for each submission
Shipping and supplemental materials:
Artists are responsible for the artwork delivery to OSU and return from OSU. If shipped, please provide a return shipping label. Artworks can be dropped off and picked up as well. Art About Agriculture will transport artworks between tour venues. All artists selected by the jury to participate in the exhibition will be asked to provide a CV, an artist statement, and a rigid, reusable packing container for selected artworks. Selected artwork, CV, and artist statement must be delivered to the below address no later than 4:00pm, Tuesday, August 4, 2020:

July 14, 2020 (Tuesday): Selection and non-selection notices emailed to artists. Selected artists will receive an OSU Personal Property Loan Agreement form via DocuSign, to be completed by the artist.
August 4, 2020 (Tuesday): Deadline to receive artwork, packing container CV, artist statement, and OSU PPLA form.
August 18, 2020 (Tuesday): Notices emailed of jurors’ final selections for Tour 2020 and awards.
September 3, 2020 (Thursday): Opening event for the 37th Annual Art About Agriculture exhibition with an artist’s reception and awards presentation at Giustina Gallery, The LaSells Stewart Center, Oregon State University.
