16-year-old Ava Carey left home Thursday, Aug. 20, for a nearby park and did not return. Her family reported her missing that night, telling the Corvallis Police Department (CPD) that she has special needs.
CPD reports Carey was last seen at 6 p.m. on 700 block NE Conifer Boulevard. She is 5 foot 6 inches tall, 107 pounds, and has auburn hair that is shaved on one side and often in a ponytail. She was last seen in a black fisherman’s cap, blue jeans, a black t-shirt and running shoes. She also carried a distinctive skateboard.
Police searched the area with the K-9 unit, canvassed nearby neighborhoods and reached out to other law enforcement agencies and community partners.
The flyer for Carey cautions that she may be upset and has a recent history of attempted suicide. CPD asks that if you have seen Carey since she left home on Aug. 20, that you call their dispatch center at 541-766-6911. They add, “We ask you to only call if you have seen Ava; calling for status updates or questions will only tie up resources we could be using to find her.”
