Republican Senators Fined for Walking Off the Job Get Bailout

Remember those eleven Republican senators that walked out of the Oregon Capitol to kill a cap-and-trade bill earlier this year? It turns out that bailing on one’s legislative post is a fineable offense – so the Democratic senate leadership has now levied a $500 a day fine, per missing senator. That’s $3,500 per senator.

However, the offending senators will be getting $3,000 each to pay their fines from The Stand with Our Senators Political Action Committee. The PAC raised $42,000, and spent $34,629, and had $5,000 on hand as of Tuesday.

The PAC’s largest donor was 2018 failed Republican gubernatorial candidate Knute Buehler, at $5,000.

Other large contributors included logging and construction firms.
