Oregon Senate President Takes Medical Leave

Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney announced today he will take a 10 day medical leave.

The Salem Democrat, age 75, wrote in a message tweeted by OPB,  “Under the advice of my doctors, I am taking a medical leave of absence of 10 days.” Courtney also said, “Senate President Pro Tempore Laurie Monnes Anderson will manage the daily operations of the Senate until my return … I look forward to returning to the Senate in full health and continuing our work together this session.”

Senators are currently six weeks into a five month legislative session. Courtney has served in the in the senate for 32 years, and was first elected president of the body in 2003.

RELATED, BUT NOT REALLY. The Oregonian took the opportunity of today’s news to report on ongoing questions surrounding Courtney’s handling of sexual harassment claims in the Senate, though they appear to be the only major media to have done so, today.
