Fred Meyer Boycott Lifted, Union Reports Success

Employees of Fred Meyer and UFCW Local 555 have announced that a tentative agreement has been reached with the retail giant, ending a boycott that began on Monday. The boycott was held in protest of pay inequities and unfair labor practices. According to the union, the call for a boycott had come after 15 months of negotiation with Fred Meyer.

The boycott also had the support of the Democratic Party of Oregon. Party Chair KC Hanson, said, “After decades of Republican-led assaults on working people and a constant barrage of anti-worker policies from the Trump administration, now is the time to stand alongside these workers in solidarity and show that Democrats back up our words of labor support with action.”

According to a statement released by UFCW Local 555, “Our bargaining team is happy to report that we were successful in addressing all of our concerns.” However, the details of the agreement will be embargoed until the union has voted to ratify it.
