So, here’s the scoop: September is National Ice Cream Month. Topping that is National Ice Cream Cone Day on Sunday, September 22.
To celebrate, the Oregon Dairy and Nutrition Council built a cool thing called the Oregon Ice Cream Trail, featuring 53 top ice cream spots around Oregon. Among the lot there was one singular Mid-Valley standout, Corvallis’s very own Francesco’s on 2nd Street.
More Screams for Ice Creams – And, Not Ice Creams
The map for the full trail started with just a few nominations from the Council itself, but a call for further nominations, apparently, brought in quite the response. The trail meanders the entirety of Oregon, though it is heavily weighted by options in both Portland and Central Oregon.
Serving up a variety of scoops – ice cream, custard, gelato and even frozen yogurt – all made in Oregon, the Ice Cream Trail site also offers a downloadable app with an interactive map.
Reviewing Francesco’s sometime back, one in intrepid Advocate reporter wrote, ” For a real treat, try their affogato, an espresso poured over gelato.”
