A longtime fixture of Circle Boulevard, McGrath’s Fish House suddenly closed for good after closing for the night on Thursday, June 20. Their unexpected closure reportedly affects around 30 employees.
Having learned earlier on Thursday that “urgent, major repairs” to the building’s roof and walk-in freezer would cost “tens of thousands of dollars,” founder John McGrath made the decision to close the Salem-based chain’s sole Corvallis location.
The employees of the Corvallis McGrath’s were offered positions at their Salem location in the Willamette Town Center, almost 40 miles away. Salem is the closest McGrath’s to Corvallis, with most of their locations closer to the Portland area.
“I feel bad about having to close,” John McGrath told reporters. “We tried to keep it going. Sometimes things change. We enjoyed having a restaurant in Corvallis for all this time. We’ve appreciated your patronage all these years and we hope your can join us in Salem.”
