Coming to the Majestic: Sarah Lee Guthrie

Sarah Lee Guthrie, daughter of the folk artist Arlo Guthrie and granddaughter of the legendary Woody Guthrie, will perform at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Majestic Theatre in Corvallis.

Guthrie’s performance is part of the American Strings series sponsored by the Oregon State University College of Liberal Arts.

Hosted by Bob Santelli, the OSU College of Liberal Arts’ director of popular music and performing arts, the American Strings series brings renowned artists from around the United States to Corvallis for an in-depth look at how and why stringed instruments play such a profound role in American music.

The performance and conversation that comprises each segment of American Strings provides an opportunity to appreciate and better understand the great American music tradition.

Over the last two decades, Sarah Lee Guthrie and her husband, Johnny Irion, have created a pop-fused folk rock sound on a series of critically-acclaimed albums. On the 2009 album “Go Waggaloo,” Guthrie created a family album of original songs, including a few with Woody Guthrie’s lyrics, that won her a Golden Medallion from The Parent’s Choice Foundation.
