When you pick up an Advocate, what’s your favorite thing about it? What kinds of stories or graphics draw your attention first? What do you wish there were more of, or what do you think could be better?

Last week, during our Journalism CitySpeak, Eugene Weekly Editor Camilla Mortensen said one of the reasons their paper has seen success and resiliency is because it is a community paper — people are constantly writing in, and sending Letters to the Editor. When they pick it up, they feel like they’re a part of the paper, represented in it’s pages. By comparison, our Letters to the Editor section was short-lived, due to a lack of write-ins.

Someone in the crowd asked, what can Corvallis folks do to help The Advocate, aside from subscribing? Frankly, financial support is what will ultimately sustain us. But we also want to hear from you. We want you to take an interest. Because a community without local, independent journalism is a community without true representation.
