Benton County’s biennial budgeting process kicks off this week with the first of two public hearings slated on the spending plan, and unveiling of the county’s proposed budget.
This first Budget Committee meeting is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunset Building, 4077 SW Research Way in Corvallis.
The 2017-19 budget is almost $244 million. The new 2019-21 budget goes into effect on July 1 of this year. This biennium’s committee members are: County Commissioners Pat Malone, Xan Augerot and Annabelle Jaramillo and citizen members David Dowrie, Curtis Wright and Nancy Wyse. The county’s tax rate is set by this commission. The citizen members decide on salaries for the County Commissioners.
One budget decision will be made at this Wednesday’s meeting regarding the library county service district budget and tax rate – though a presentation and public hearing are slated beforehand.
