Corvallis Summer Theatre Calendar

The season of summer productions is here, and the Majestic Theatre, The Albany Civic Theater and OSU have a great summer lineup on the way. Camp season is well underway, meaning some productions in town are put on by youngsters, and all the more lively. OSU’s Bard in the Quad setup is back to give you an opportunity for a picnic and a play on campus, and the Majestic is ready to go with their always riveting Reader’s Theatre. Check out the dates of what’s playing, and get ready to hit the stage.

The Albany Civic Theater

Red, White, and Tuna
July 1-8

Red, White, and Tuna is the third installment of the Tuna trilogy. Set in Tuna, Texas, the third-smallest town in the state, the play is a satire of small-town southern living, but it comments on that life in a loving way. The third glimpse into the lives of Tuna takes place over Independence Day, though the Albany Civic is putting this on for the first week of July. Tickets range from $10-$13.

Little Women
July 28-August 5

In this production the classic novel is presented with a narration by an older version of Josephine March, one of the four sisters. A grown woman, she tells the story of herself and her sisters as they grow older. Karlissa Cornwell will be making her directorial debut with Little Women. Tickets range from $10-$12.

Willy Wonka, Jr.
August 25-Sept. 2

Willy Wonka Jr. the musical will be put on through the ACT Summer Camp with just four productions. Another adaption of Roald Dahl’s classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this musical will feature songs from the 70’s movie with Gene Wilder, in addition to new songs to tell the story of Charlie and his grandfather finding the golden ticket. Tickets range from $10-$15.

Oregon State University 

Bard in the Quad:
Two Gentlemen of Verona
August 3-6, 10-13

Now in its eleventh year of Shakespeare productions, OSU’s annual Bard in the Quad presents Two Gentlemen of Verona.  It’s believed to be Shakespeare’s first play, and is a comedy that explores friendship, loyalty, and love all with a silly servant, a lively dog, and a women dressed as a man. The play is set on the Memorial Union Quad at OSU. Tickets range from $5-$10.

The Majestic 

The Wizard of Oz
July 27-29

The Majestic Summer Theatre Adventure Camp production this year is the all-time classic, The Wizard of Oz. If you think you’ve seen it enough, think again. The camp features kids ages 6 through 16, on stage and off, to give the audience a completely new experience, while showing them a thing or two about theater. Tickets range from $5-$12.

Approaching Simone
July 30

The Majestic Reader’s Theatre presents Approaching Simone, explores spirituality through telling the story of the life of Simone Weil. She died in 1943 of self-inflicted starvation, and was later deemed a saint. Tickets range from $10-$12.

Transformations
August 27

Grimm’s famous fairy tales are re-written by poet Anne Sexton in Transformations, presented by the Majestic Reader’s Theatre. She retells stories like Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Little Red Riding Hood through poetry, but with a dark, sexy, and sometimes scarier twist. Guaranteed to be funny as well, tickets range from $10-$12.
