Celebrating True Stories from the Community

In June, The Advocate hosted its first Storytelling Night, and we were blown away by the response. The stories were equal parts amusing and earnest, and best of all, they were true. You don’t often get to hear friends share such intimate details about their lives, let alone strangers. The room was filled with both. The theme that month was “Beginnings and Endings,” leading to a spectrum of tales ranging from birth to death, and everything in between.

On Tuesday August 29, we’re proud to present our second Storytelling Night, this time with the theme “Growing Up.” Inspired by The Moth, we hope to provide a space for members of the Corvallis community to practice and appreciate the art of storytelling. Whether you’ve been telling stories your whole life or this would be your first time getting up in front people and sharing a tale, all are welcome. In June, the audience was attentive and supportive. We expect the same this time around.

This month’s Storytelling Night will be at Old World Deli. Sign-up begins at 6:30 p.m., with storytelling from 7-9:00 p.m. The event is free, so stop by and lend an ear, or be brave and tell us a story about growing up. Not sure where to start? Email editor@corvallisadvocate.com and we’ll be happy to help you find the right story to tell. We can’t wait to hear it.
