Buy Local First Day

On Saturday, December 2, Corvallis’ Independent Business Alliance has organized the annual Buy Local First day. This year, 22 local businesses are participating by offering special discounts, holiday treats, giveaways, and sale items all day Saturday.

Shoppers can also participate in the Buy Local First Holiday contest. Each store has a prize that shoppers can enter to win at that store. The shoppers who are enter but do not win, are then placed in the pool to win a grand prize: a $110 gift certificate to SkyHigh Brew Pub, a $50 gift certificate to the Majestic, and a bottle of champagne from First Alternative Co-Op.

Additionally, there’s a new social media contest that involves posting a selfie while out shopping, using Facebook to check-in at participating stores, and sharing the Buy Local First event page. The winner will receive a $100 First Alternative Co-Op gift certificate.

“Money spent locally tends to stay in the local economy longer, creating a healthier community for all of us,” CIBA member and business participant in Buy Local First, Kate Lindberg explained. “Dollars spent shopping at out-of-town malls or online actually have a negative impact on Corvallis.”
