8 Days a Week…

Thursday, August 10

SAGE Summer Concert. Bruce Starker Arts Amphitheater, 4485 SW Country Club Dr., Corvallis. 6-9 p.m. Suggested donation of $10 per family.

The family-friendly SAGE Summer Concerts have proven themselves an excellent showcase of local musicians, and certainly do their part to support local business. Food, drinks, and alcohol will be on hand for sale, as well as free parking (and spots for your bike). All proceeds benefit SAGE Garden. For info, visit corvallisenvironmentalcenter.org/.

Wild Hog in the Woods. Calapooia Brewing Company, 140 Hill St. NE, Albany. 8 p.m. Free. One of the hardest working bands around, Wild Hog hits up their favorite venue. The good news? You’re allowed to go! And there’s great food and drinks. Seriously, what else are you going to do with your Thursday? For info, visit calapooiabrewing.com/blog/live-music-and-events/.

Friday, August 11

Reception: The OSU150 Space Grant Art Exhibit. Giustina Gallery, LSC, 875 SW 26th St., Corvallis. 6-8:30 p.m. Free.

Let me break this down for you: When OSU does hors d’oeuvres, they go big. Add to that a cash bar with wine and craft beer, and you’ve got enough reason to show up without even having realized that this exhibit is phenomenal. Don’t believe me? Check out lasells.oregonstate.edu/exhibit/osu150-space-grant-art-exhibit.

Planet Booty Live in Corvallis. Bombs Away Cafe, 2527 NW Monroe Ave, Corvallis. 9 p.m. Free.

Prepare to be assaulted with a blend of funk, electro and RnB. In a good way, of course. Just try not to hurt yourself dancing (its possible, believe me). For info, visit facebook.com/pg/bombsawaycafe/events/.

Wilhelmina Frankzerda & Sterling Abernathy. The Salty Dog, 126 SW First St., Corvallis. 9:30 p.m. $5.

If you’re in need of a folk / country fix, you’d be hard pressed to find a better way to do it! For info, visit facebook.com/TheSaltyDogCorvallis/.

Michael Howard & The Magic Powers with Clara Baker Trio. Bombs Away Cafe 2527 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis. 9:30 p.m. $5.

Alt-folk and Americana out of Alaska. Why not welcome them Bombs Away style (ie. with awesome food in your stomach and a beer in your hand)? For info, visit facebook.com/pg/bombsawaycafe/events/.

The Jake Brown Some-tet + The Courtesy Clerks. The Salty Dog, 126 SW First St., Corvallis. 9:30 p.m. $5.

When “80s covers and some home-brewed jazz fusion” is all you need to hear to mark an event down on your calendar. For info, visit facebook.com/TheSaltyDogCorvallis/.

Sunday, August 13

Bard in the Qaud: The Two Gentlemen of Verona. Memorial Union Quad, 2501 SW Jefferson Way, Corvallis. 7:30 p.m. General Admission $15, Senior/Student/Youth $10, and OSU Student $5.

For just over a decade now, Bard in the Quad has “presented innovative, quality productions to the OSU campus.” If they do say so themselves. However, all of us are saying that, really. Pack a picnic and join in for one of Corvallis’ more enjoyable traditions. The company will remind you that theater is far from a lost art! For info, visit http://summer.oregonstate.edu/todo/on-campus/entertainment/theatre.htm.

Monday, August 14

Bryson Skaar. Imagine Coffee, 5460 SW Philomath Blvd., Corvallis. 7-9 p.m.

Bryson has been key-wranglin’ every Monday at Imagine absolutely forever, yet at no point has it become old to just enjoy a cup of coffee (or a shirt of coffee, if you’re like me and spill a lot) and listen to him play. Do not underestimate the power of the piano in gifted hands, my friends. Also, don’t underestimate electricity, elephants, or the vastness of space. Just kind of throwing that public service announcement in there. For info, visit imaginecoffee.net.

Tuesday, August 15

Red Cross Blood Drive at FIRSTCorvallis. FIRST Corvallis, 320 SW Second St., Corvallis. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.

Concert in the Park- Jazz! -TBD. Central Park Gazebo, Central Park, 650 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis. 8 p.m. Free.

Jazz in the park? Very yes. You might even forget about this obnoxious heat wave for a few minutes. For info, visit c-cband.org/.

Pencils, Pens, & Drinks with Friends. The Salty Dog, 126 SW First St., Corvallis. 8 p.m.

Pens, pencils, crayons, what’ve you got? No, don’t use the ketchup. Well, I suppose you can ask. Though you might be too busy having a blast. Okay, so my salesmanship sucks, but luckily I don’t have to try here. A guaranteed good time! For info, visit facebook.com/TheSaltyDogCorvallis/.

Wednesday, August 16

NASA Explains the Eclipse. Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis. 1:30-3 p.m. Free.

Still haven’t had the eclipse madness beaten out of you? Then you’re in luck! NASA educator Dorian Janney takes you on a journey of ecliptical (not a word, but go with me on this one) proportions packed with fun and educational activities. For info, visit cbcpubliclibrary.net.

Thursday, August 17

SOFT/EN Exhibition Opening. CEI ARTWORKS Gallery, 408 SW Monroe St., Corvallis. 4-8 p.m.

Trust me when I say that you’re going to want to pay attention to this one – and you can start by visiting http://splitprojects.weebly.com/. CEI Artworks have really outdone themselves this time. From the press release: “In partnership with CEI ARTWORKS, S/PLI/T Projects is proud to present soft/en, an exhibition of new works from Portland-based artists Chloe Cooper and Tessa Heck. Working in different mediums, both artists reference the body through abstract form, gestural movement, and figurative identities, complicating traditional narratives of femininity.” For info, visit outpost1000.weebly.com/split-projects-with-tessa-heck-chloe-cooper.html.

Curtis Monette. Bombs Away Cafe 2527 NW Monroe Ave, Corvallis. 8:30 p.m. Free.

Curtis Monette at Bombs is kind of like… I don’t know, think of any two amazing things that go together incredibly well. Sometimes referred to as a “live-looping lunatic,” you’re going to want to catch this 10+ year veteran of the Corvallis music scene. Beat box, electric guitar, bass, mandolin, etc. All fused together in an incredible solo performance reeking of everything from psychedelic rock to bluegrass.. For info, visit facebook.com/pg/bombsawaycafe/events/.
