Burlesque is trending upwards in Corvallis, and a titillating band of local performers are looking to make their big sophomore splash on the Majestic stage. Tart of the Valley Burlesque, a local burlesque collective, will be playfully teasing audiences with Books and Burlesque on Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Majestic Theatre.
After a sold-out freshman effort ain the form of their Flaunt Among the Flowers show in May, Tart of the Valley is looking to go even bigger with Books and Burlesque.
“The first show was a test, so there were some restrictions in place,” said Hazel Mae, one of the performers of the group. “We were so excited that there was so much support from the community for this art form that we were granted the freedom to bring more traditional burlesque costumes to the stage, complete with pasties.”
Books and Burlesque follows the story of stodgy local librarian Cameo Peach in his efforts to rid his library of some sexual spirits who’ve arrived after someone came through town and performed “certain indecent acts” in said library. The show will feature a number of acts based on famous literary characters from books like Alice in Wonderland, Macbeth, and even Metamorphosis. Performers include burlesque superstar Angelique De’Vil and local burlesque performers Starena Sparktacular, Hazel Mae, Serine L’Trine, and Bernadette Down.
Tart of the Valley Burlesque is looking to cultivate a rich community of burlesque in this frighteningly buttoned-up town of ours, and they welcome any and all support.
“We are so thrilled to have such wonderful people to work with and would love that to grow and expand in this community,” said Sparktackular, a founding member of Tart of the Valley. “We are holding a casting call in November, we invite performers with all kinds of talents. Anyone looking for more information can check out the Majestic website [www.majestic.org] or email firstname.lastname@example.org.”
So if you’re looking to slap some pasties on and twirl around on stage or just looking to be mesmerized by those doing the twirling, Books and Burlesque has you covered.
The performance is on Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Majestic. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for members, students, and seniors. The show is for audiences 18 and up. Find more info at www.majestic.org.
