The Oregon State University Ballroom Dance Company (BDC) has its spring concert, “Swing’in Ballroom,” right around the corner. The BDC comprises the original Cool Shoes Dance Troupe and an additional team, New Shoes. The concert is an award-winning showcase featuring two pieces that combine traditional ballroom dancing with country western flair.
This show has something for everyone, including a flashy two-step, a Men in Black interpretation of West Coast Swing, a wild and crazy Lindy Hop, and an all new “Swing’in Finale,” as well as numerous other pieces. Audiences will be treated to breathtaking lifts, beautiful costumes, and high energy dancing that will have you bouncing in your seat.
The 42 members of the company come from numerous areas of study at Oregon State, ranging from engineering to fisheries & wildlife to English, and vary in age from 18 to 37. Shed your Colonial notions of ballroom propriety and come enjoy this wild performance fusion.
“Swing’in Ballroom” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 at the Corvallis High School Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 general admission and $8 for students and seniors. For more information, contact Cathy Dark at 541-737-5929.
