A cappella used to be old timey until it got all trendy, a la such pop culture standouts as Pitch Perfect. Loud, proud, clear and devoid of instrumental accompaniment, the Majestic Theatre is bringing this music experience to Corvallis on Saturday, March 1 with its own A Cappella Tonight performance. Several a cappella groups, including local favorites like the Sirens, Blue Light Special, Divine, Spartacapella and more will take the main stage to perform the traditional pop hits we all know and love.
OSU female a cappella group Divine was originally formed of various students of all different ages, majors and backgrounds in 2003. If you’re a student, you may have already seen them sing and dance on the front steps of the Memorial Union on Fridays.
And then there’s Spartacapella, a 24-member group of singers from Corvallis High School. They made it to the ICHSA West Coast Semifinal in Portland last year.
Blue Light Special and the Sirens are a pair of LBCC a cappella groups that host the Celebration of a Cappella at Albany’s Russell Tripp Performance Center in April each year, in addition to performing at other local events.
Needless to say it will be exciting to see what these diverse groups have in store for audiences that crave a vocal vibe.
A Cappella Tonight begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 1. Tickets are $6-$8 and can be purchased online at http://www.majestic.org/tickets/ or at the box-office at 115 SW 2nd Street in downtown Corvallis.
