Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) has been aiming to expand their Benton Center campus in Corvallis to accommodate more classrooms and parking for its students. A major aspect of the officials’ proposal was to purchase nearby Washington Park from the city as a component to their $34 million bond, coming on the November ballot, to build the additions. However, many in the community have opposed such development and Corvallis selling the park for this expansion.
Apparently, LBCC officials have heard these complaints loud and clear, as president Greg Hamann submitted a letter today to Corvallis Mayor Julie Manning and the city council saying the college will now end its attempt to purchase the park. LBCC will now look for alternatives to their expansion, and may try to partner with Samaritan Health Services to build a parking structure.
