Corvallis Housing First, formerly the Corvallis Homeless Shelter Coalition, will host an open house at their 530 SW 4th St. facility this Sunday, October 26th from 2–4 p.m. The open house will give community members an opportunity to meet volunteers and see the remodeling work that’s been done, says CHF board member Bart Bolger.
On Monday, October 27th, CHF will present a community forum at the Corvallis public library at 7:30 p.m. The forum will feature a presentation about the plan to build a new homeless shelter at the 4th St. location, and will offer a time for Q & A.
CHF, which initially planned to open a three-story homeless shelter in 2015, has reworked their goal to include a longer timeline and more in-depth planning. Their existing cold-weather shelter, slated to re-open in November, has drawn criticism in the past from local business owners. One of the complaints has been a lack of communication on the part of the shelter organizers; hopefully these two events will both help CHF clarify their plans and give community members an opportunity to engage.
