Friday’s Harbor: Orcas in Captivity. Corvallis Public Library, 645 NW Monroe Ave., Corvallis. 7 – 8:30 p.m. With the release of the controversial documentary Blackfish, killer whale captivity has become a hot-button topic. Novelist Diane Hammond will give a slide presentation about orcas in captivity, her experiences as killer whale Keiko’s press secretary in the late 1990′s and how it inspired her latest novel, Friday’s Harbor. Free event.

FIRST Robotics Competition at OSU. In this robotics competition, teams of high school students and adult mentors work to design robots and compete against other teams. The district event will be on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 at Gill Coliseum, and is free to the public. The best opportunities to see the competitive games will be Saturday between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Spring Craft Fair at the Children’s Farm Home Old School. 4455 U.S. 20, Corvallis. 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Visit the beautiful and recently restored Children’s Farm Home Old School for the Spring Craft Fair, and shop the wares of local crafters and artisans, including candles, quilting, jewelry, paper crafts and more. Free admission.
