Did you happen to see these “Public Notice: Tree Removal” signs on several large trees, and blue ribbons around nearly all the trees on 30th Street last week? The signs said the university had deemed similar trees an “obstruction to progress,” so it was most likely a form of protest. But before you have an eco-panic attack, read the fine print: calling the number listed on the signs didn’t provide any answers; it simply led to the Barometer’s newsroom. Was it a hoax, or were protesters hoping the Barometer would respond to comments? Unless whoever did it fesses up, we may never know for sure!
