On Stage: The Magic Flute

An exciting collaboration between OSU Music, OSU Theatre, and Friends of OSU Opera has formed to present Mozart’s beloved opera, The Magic Flute.

Under the stage direction of OSU Theatre professor Dr. Marion O. Rossi and musical direction of Dr. Steven Zilke, the Majestic Theater will stage the first full-scale opera in the Corvallis community in ten years.

The Magic Flute is the story of the handsome Prince Tamino and the beautiful captive Princess Pamina as they search through a wonderfully whimsical world full of danger, adventure, and true love. It features spectacle, a full orchestra, cherished music, comedy, and some of opera’s most memorable characters including the lovable Papageno and the all-powerful and mysterious Queen of the Night.

This collaboration promises to be highly entertaining as they have teamed up for a wildly imaginative Steampunk-style production, transporting Mozart’s charming cast of characters to a mysterious otherworld that brings together technology, Victorian aesthetic, and a little bit of magic. The unique blending of classic music with new high-tech elements and innovative visual design promises The Magic Flute as it’s never been seen.

Company Info: OSU Theatre, OSU Music, and Friends of OSU Opera have collaborated on a variety of opera workshops and productions of classic Gilbert and Sullivan “light operas” over the years, including recent productions of The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado. The Majestic Theater is extremely excited about the opportunity to bring a full-scale opera to Corvallis and look forward to our continued artistic collaboration for years to come.
