Are the ocean’s waves a viable source of clean energy? Science Pub Corvallis tackles the topic of wave energy technology with “Prospects for Ocean Wave Energy” on Monday, June 11. Belinda Batten, PhD, director of the Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center, will discuss the environmental impact of ocean energy generators and the future of a West Coast wave energy industry. The mechanical buoys must survive harsh ocean conditions while co-existing with marine wildlife, boating, and fishing. The devices will be tested this summer on the Oregon coast.
Typically held on the second Monday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Old World Deli, 341 SW 2nd Street, Science Pub is taking a break for July and August. The series resumes in September.
