The Corvallis Environmental Center (CEC) is hosting Earth Ball 2012: An All-Species Masquerade—a costume party and benefit concert to celebrate Earth Day and support the CEC’s programs. The event will be Saturday, April 21st, from 7pm to midnight at Odd Fellows Hall at 223 SW 2nd St. in Corvallis. It’s an all-ages event with a sliding scale entry fee of $5 to $25 so that all can attend.
This year’s event features live music by local bands Space Neighbors and Lark (formerly Three Fingered Jack), world-class belly dancing with Corvallis’ own Yemaya, local food available from ZIA Southwest Cuisine and Breaking Bread, libations care of Oregon Trail Brewing, and chair massages from local massage therapists. All proceeds will benefit the CEC’s programs including Avery House Nature Center, Edible Corvallis Initiative, Resource Efficiency Program, and Energize Corvallis.
The CEC has been steadily growing and thriving in recent years, in direct response to our community’s desire to be sustainable. John Knight, the CEC’s Board Treasurer and Co-Chair of Earth Ball 2012 explains, “The CEC’s programs today are strong and effective because of the support we receive from the community—local, regional, and even Federal in the form of grant funding. We are extremely excited to share our celebration with Corvallis and our surrounding communities, highlighting some of the wonderful work done throughout the year by the Corvallis Environmental Center and all of our sponsors.”
The Corvallis Environmental Center was founded in 1994 as a grassroots effort to take action on a number of environmental issues. Their mission is to provide learning opportunities and technical outreach to Corvallis area residents and businesses, giving them the tools to make ecologically, socially, and economically sound choices. The CEC educates people about issues of sustainability, wise use of natural resources, and the importance of local ecosystems and natural areas. Each year they reach more than 10,000 people directly through programs and outreach activities.
