Culture Fail: Is Santorum Really Out?

by Magdalen O’Reilly

The only thing sadder that Rick Santorum’s “war” on porn is that a certain percentage of Americans actually take him seriously. Here’s a reality check for you:  porn is everywhere. It’s been around longer than this debate, and it’s going to be around long after the inevitable sex scandal that ruins his career.  Oh, yeah…don’t think we don’t see it. No one who rails against homosexuals as vehemently as Rick Santorum is comfortable with his sexuality. As with the infamous Ted Haggard, I’m expecting no less than the best gay sex scandal of the century.

We all need to remember that this behavior isn’t normal. It goes beyond the usual pandering to religious conservatives. Pornography is a part of our culture, but it is by no means perfect. There is a laundry list of demands that need to be met before the adult entertainment industry is anywhere close. And by ‘perfect’ I mean just not unbelievably sexist. Attempting a ban of pornography is stupid and totally pointless, because everyone likes it. Even Rick Santorum…especially Rick Santorum. Between his homophobia and this “war” on porn, all this campaign has proven is how far someone is willing to go to hide his gay porn addiction; an addiction that would probably have never developed if homosexuals like Rick Santorum were raised to love and accept themselves.

Rick, just know it’s going to be okay. We accept you just as you are. So go on, loosen your tie and go ask out that cute guy who works at Starbucks. Fly that rainbow flag, Ricky. We believe in you!
