Corvallis Celebrates Buy Local First Day on December 1st

Buy Local First!Still looking for that perfect holiday gift? This year thanks to the Corvallis Independent Business Alliance (CIBA) and the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition, there’s yet another great reason to keep your purchases local. This Saturday, Dec. 1, kick off the second annual Buy Local First Day, with discounts at a variety of local businesses. Don’t worry if you’ve already got plans for Dec. 1—the event continues through Dec. 15 with a Buy Local First Holiday Contest. Visit Corvallis’ participating businesses during the first two weeks of December and win gift certificates, coupons, and more!

Buy Local First promotes community-wide economic health, and directly supports local businesses and business-owners—our neighbors and friends! This year’s quickly-growing list of participating Corvallis businesses includes Golden Crane, the First Alternative Natural Foods Co-op, Animal Crackers, Live Well Studio, Peak Sports, Robnett’s Hardware, and many others.

And if you’re wondering whether or not buying local, as opposed to stocking up at Amazon.com or Best Buy, really helps our community, according to CIBA and The Corvallis Sustainability Coalition, “Of every $100 spent at a locally owned business, $45 goes back into the local economy. Only $13 of every $100 spent at a chain store stays in the community.”
