If you think the farmers’ market is neat, wait til you see Fill Your Pantry Day. Held Sunday, Nov. 11 at the First United Methodist Church, the event features staple crops such as dried beans, flours, and grains from more than 10 local farms, priced in bulk. You’ll also find winter squash, wild rice, jams, cheese, and honey, along with other fruits and veggies, meat and eggs. It’s recommended that you make your orders in advance, but you can also just show up.
A partnership between Ten Rivers Food Web, the Willamette Bean and Grain Project, the Willamette Farm and Food Coalition, and Greenwillow Grains, it’s a way to provide local, organic foods in bulk at affordable prices. Shedd and Eugene also hold Fill Your Pantry events; this is the second event for Corvallis, which in 2010 saw many people load their bikes up with bulk foods from a Fill Your Pantry Day at A2R Farms.
“It’s been a really successful event,” said Jen Christion Myers, executive director of Ten Rivers Food Web. “We’ve definitely had a lot of our farmers say it was their best-selling day of the year.”
Corvallis Fill Your Pantry Day is on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1165 NW Monroe Avenue. Pre-orders are required for any orders greater than 100 pounds and recommended for smaller quantities so that farmers know how much to bring. Place an order before Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 10 p.m., or show up the day of the event. For more information or to pre-order foods, visit http://www.localfoodmarketplace.com/wffc/default.aspx
