Local Author Line-up at Grass Roots Books & Music

Grass Roots Books & Music, 227 SW 2nd Street, has been a warm and welcoming hub for local artists and authors since 1977. Its upcoming October events are an excellent example of this commitment to community.

Aaron J. Nicholson, a native Oregonian and graduate from Oregon State University, will present his book “The State of Determination” on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. The book chronicles Nicholson’s journey north on the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. What makes Aaron’s adventure different from others? He set a goal to hike from the California border to the Columbia River without restocking his pack. Amazing.

Charity Shumway, another OSU graduate with an MFA in creative writing, will celebrate the publication of her first novel “Ten Girls to Watch” on Monday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.

The inclusion of graduates on the docket for events at Grass Roots truly illustrates their passion for local authors.

“Grass Roots is always excited to bring authors into the community. We are especially excited to welcome graduates back and to celebrate their work,” said Pamela Moeller, Events and Marketing Coordinator at Grass Roots.

Not to be outdone, other exciting authors are presenting their work at Grass Roots during the month of October. Priscilla Stuckey, author of “Kissed by a Fox: And Other Stories of Friendship in Nature,” will speak at Grass Roots on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. She is a wonderful fit for Corvallis’ community of naturalists.

Finn J.D. John will introduce his book “Wicked Portland: The Wild and Lusty Underworld of a Frontier Seaport Town” on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. Written by the columnist for “Offbeat Oregon,” this book is sure to please as it illustrates the thorny side of the City of Roses.

These authors and more are part of an outstanding, month-long lineup at Grass Roots Books & Music. Be sure to check them out!
